San Diego

Jim's old high school buddy, Ron Kennedy, lives in Carlsbad, California - just about an hour north of San Diego. He made arrangements to come visit us when we were at port AND take us on a tour of the Navy Base there. He is retired now, but he was a navy man for many years, he commanded the USS Pearl Harbor. He was also the navigator on the Spiegel Grove, a ship that is now an artificial reef in the Keys. Jim and I dove on that ship!

Then we went to a delicious lunch in Old Town.

Anyway, it was special to get to see the Navy Base that is off limits to most folks.

The same class of ship as the one Ron commanded - The Harpers Ferry-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52)

We were in San Diego for 2 days, so we had time to do some shopping. I needed a new Apple Watch and iPhone, Jim needed a new computer. Guess what? There's an Apple Store in town. They fixed us both up.

We sailed away from San Diego on a gorgeous evening, sitting outside for our dinner with new friends Wayne and Donna.

On our way to Catalina now.
