Mammoth Caves

Yesterday we visited Mammoth caves. It was a drizzly day - no good for bike riding. And, weather certainly doesn't matter when you're going underground! We're always eager to add another National Park to our list. This one is number 18! We weren't the only ones with this idea however. Here's our tour group. And, down we go ... Not a very good environment for taking pictures, but I did get this one of our tour guide in the area called Giant's Coffin. There are no stalactites or stalagmites in this cave - it's a dry cave. But there are very large 'rooms'. And, very small spaces. There also aren't any dinosaurs, and no wooly mammoths. The cave gets it's name because it's large ... mammoth in fact. Of the 365 miles of cave, we walked 2 of them! My favorite part was called Mammoth dome. Then back to the light of day.

Home?!

Well, I'm back home. Back from visiting home. Our home moves. Home is not in the same spot where I left it. It will not be in this spot tomorrow. It is always good to go home. And great to come back home. I left home last week to go home for my mom's funeral. A week at home with my wonderful father. The flight back was uneventful. As it should be. I found the car. Easy to spot with a yellow and a blue kayak on top. I drove to the liquor store for provisions and headed down the road to where home is (was?). Chris and Odie were glad to see me. Almost as glad as I was to be home.

Computer Training Video - Cut, Copy, Paste & Undo

I just added a new title to my Computer Training Videos page. Cut, Copy, Paste and Undo are tools I use all the time when I'm on the computer. I can't imagine using a computer without them. Contrary to how I feel, I wasn't born knowing them. At some point in time (more than 20 years ago) someone showed me how to Cut, Copy, Paste and Undo, and I'd like to return the favor. Many RVers, not all - but many, are new to computers and haven't learned these oh-so-useful tools. I remember one time, when I was tutoring someone, and I nonchalantly instructed them to "copy that email address and paste it into the 'To:' field". They froze. They simply couldn't process what I had just asked them to do. Oh yeah, they weren't born knowing this either. And, if you're over 30, you probably didn't learn it in school. At 9 1/2 minutes, this is one of my longer videos, you will want a high-speed Internet connection to view it, although I do give instructions on what to do if you have a slow speed connection. Quiet Time = Learning Time

Some people like loud music and lots of caffeine to work or study. I like it quiet and peaceful. What a luxury I've had here this week to be alone with absolutely nothing going on. I'm trying to put the time to good use. I have so much to learn. A few of my websites use a data management technology called Coldfusion and I have a lot to learn to get good at it. I'd also like to use Flash Remoting and Flash Forms in my websites as well. If that sounds greek to you ... I'm glad! I hope that not too many people know about this stuff that I'm working so hard to learn! And, I'm so grateful for Lynda.com. That's a website that is chock-full of video tutorials on the stuff that I want to learn. I've been a subscriber for about 3 years now. Anything I want to learn - I go to Lynda.com. She's also been my inspiration for making my own Computer Training Videos. Anyway ... here's the peaceful scene where I am right now in the Mammoth Cave area of Kentucky. Take a look at the peace and quiet out my door: Quiet, that is, except for the guy practicing his accordion in the site next to me on the other side. I've heard 'My Old Kentucky Home' at least a dozen times. Or, at least, I think it's My Old Kentucky Home ... seems logical. Or, maybe it's Red River Valley. Oh wait, now I hear "You are my Sunshine ... my only sunshine ..." Ha Kinda fun actually. ooops - he stopped. Back to work.

Testing New Navigation

I want to have a 'Previous Post' and 'Next Post' link at the bottom of each post. I found the code to put into the template but it's pretty complex, so I'm testing it on one single post first. Here goes. hmmmm - well, it didn't work. But, at least it didn't break other parts of the Blog! That's what I worry about when I start 'improving' things :-) Well, I'll get back to it later. Time to do some Web work for other folks for a few hours.
