A Real Hike

We did it! We took an entire day off and went on a hike with the Palm Creek hiking club. First we drove down to Tucson, then over to a park called Sabino Canyon. By the way ... Odie is feeling much better. He's eating and drinking normally and he's back to his perky self. But, he's not allowed on this hike, so we left him home. The mountains here get up to 10,000 feet! And, they've had a lot of snow so there is water in the streams. That was good news and bad news. Water means full waterfalls, which was the intended destination of the hike, but uncrossable streams to get there! So, we took an alternate hike that went up a little ways. Spectacular views! And, the Saguaro are just *so* unique, I just can't resist taking their picture! and another More photos will be posted on Palm Creek's Picasa Web Album. It felt so good to be outside and getting some exercise. Then, we ended the day with a soak in the hot tub. ahhhh - it's a tough job, but somebody has todo it!

Odie writes back

For all those people who wrote "Get Well" notes, Odie has something to say:

Oh Boy! I like getting email - at least that's what Mom tells me it is. She's reading me notes from lots of people, some of whom I've never even met, telling me how much they like me and how they hope I'm feeling better. I'm not sure what they're talking about ... I feel fine. I sure like this 'dog food soup!'

Ever notice how dogs have extremely short term memories? "What's a 'yesterday?' So why do I remember the sleepless nights and all the money spent at the Vets? I'm just so glad he's feeling better. Thanks to Lynne for the term 'dog food soup' :-)

Sleepless Night

As of bedtime last night, Odie still had not eaten or drunk any water. He was getting pretty lethargic as well. I planned to be waiting at the Vet's door when they open at 8am today. I kept getting up to just put my hand on him and check that he was breathing. I got up for good about 5am, and he seemed a little perkier. So, I tried giving him some water - no good. But, he would eat a little of the canned food I got from the Vet yesterday. Hooray! Then I got smart and mixed a spoonful of food with some water! He ate it. Whew. I think he's going to be OK after all. I'm going to watch him for a while longer before taking him to the Vet now. It's not that I won't spend the money ... I'd spend a thousand dollars on Odie if I knew it was the right thing to do. But, once you get to the Vet's they are obligated to poke and probe and give him medications when, maybe the best thing is for him to stay home and rest.

Sick Odie

A dog can't tell you just how bad they feel, so you kinda have to assume the worst. Odie hasn't eaten or drunk any water since Friday. I had to take him outside 3 times during the night to poop, but nothing other than a dribble comes out. Same thing when he tries to throw up. The nearest Vet open on Sunday is an hour away, but I believed we had to go. Now we're back home, I'm $250 poorer, and Odie's no better - but all the tests came back normal so I feel a little more at ease. It's probably just an intestinal bug. Blood in his stool is the most worrisome part. We'll have to watch him closely and, if he's no better tomorrow I'll take him to the Vet here.

Finally! A Hike.

Well, actually more of a walk. We just can't take a whole day to go with the hiking club, so we found a little hike right here in Casa Grande. It's called Casa Grande mountain and we were able to get some exercise and see some views with just a 2 hour break in our day. And, Odie could come with us too!

No matter how pretty Cholla looks - awful to touch. It may only be 2 miles, but it's one mile UP and one mile DOWN, so it's good exercise. And we had some great views at the top. Well, we didn't go quite to the top ... maybe next time. In this photo I zoomed in on Palm Creek. All those white specs are RVs.
