Greetings from South Carolina

We've traveled over 900 miles since leaving Fort Lauderdale. Heading basically north all the way. And, if anything, it's hotter and more humid than when we left. We're not up in any mountains, but we are in the hills. The altitude reads 600 feet. The thermometer said 92 at 6pm and the humidity had us sweating buckets in our short walk with Odie. Here's our site at Carolina Landings. Not as exciting as our last site, but still nice. We're just glad that the satellite worked. There's LOTS of trees here. We ended up visiting the Carter Library after all today. Mainly because our satellite Internet connection wasn't working for us this morning, so we left. Apparently they were having very bad weather at the Network Operations Center in Maryland. I did use the cell phone just to check email. See our other blog (the technology one) for more details on our various ways to connect to the Internet. Back to the Carter Library ... It used to be, when I visited a place like a presidential library, I would buy a book in the gift shop to bring home and read more. Living in a motorhome, you just can't collect stuff like that, so I spend some time reading on the Internet. I find WikiPedia to always have the most complete information. Anything you want to know about Jimmy Carter is there.

Travel Day

We left my Dad's this morning early ... 9:30 - cuz we had a long day planned. He lives in horse country. Aren't they beautiful? After 8 hours we pulled into The North Shore Resort at Lake Oconee. This is one of the parks where we don't have to pay anything because of the Thousand Trails membership we purchased a couple weeks ago. WoW!!! It's beautiful here. We were planning to go into Atlanta tomorrow and visit the Jimmy Carter presidential library. But, now we're planning on a relaxing morning right here, then continuing on towards North Carolina. We will be back. We'll see the Carter library sometime, I have no doubt. 

Rainbow River

We're staying at my Dad's - aka Tom and Candy's - for a couple days. They live in Dunnellon in northern Florida. A big attraction here is the Rainbow River, and since we've committed to getting our kayaks wet more often, we decided to go for a paddle. Here's the launch. The water is so incredibly clear and beautiful. It was a hot day, and the water is a chilly 72 degrees, but it actually felt really good. Beautiful homes along the banks. The turtles think so too.

Safari Class C

Woh! Another Safari Class C! And this one's even 30 foot long like ours. And ... oh my god! It has a slide! I didn't think they made them with slides!? I'm so envious. This is only the 3d time in our travels that we've seen another Safari Class C. I wonder if they love theirs as much as we love ours? The other two times were April 2005 in Pahrump, NV. And, March 2006 in Laughlin, NV.

The Luckiest People in the World

Pinch me. I hope I never lose the wonder of living my dream. My dream was/is to travel around to beautiful places yet have my home and my work with me wherever I go. Luckily, that's Jim's dream too! And we are living it. Here's a satellite photo from google maps of where we are right now: You can always see this map of where we are by clicking on the link in the right column that says, "Map of where we are now". That takes you to the DatastormUsers.com map which I update whenever we move (unless I forget). Scroll down to the bottom to where you see our names and you should notice a place where you can control the 'zoom'. Click on the + all the way to the right to zoom in to the closest view, then click on the button at the top for "Google Hybrid" to see the satellite imagery. Pretty cool. Yesterday was my perfect day. We got up and took Odie for a walk on the nature trail along the river and thru the woods. Came back to our motorhome parked on the banks of the river with no one else around. We had coffee and breakfast and worked at our computers for a few hours. Then, Debbie, the manager here drove us and our kayaks up the road a ways to a boat launch. We paddled/floated down river for a couple hours seeing alligators, turtles, great blue herons and ospreys and other hawks. hmmm ... doncha wonder why they call it the "Peace" river? The only person we saw was a fish and wildlife officer in an airboat - he was gone in a flash. After an hour or two of this meditative paddle, we rounded a bend and saw ... Home! Then we took a drive to the only local tourist attraction ... Solomons Castle. Unfortunately it was closed for the summer - but it was a nice drive anyway. We came home, put in a few more hours on the computer, had dinner, and topped it all off with a soak in the hot tub. On second thought ... don't pinch me. I don't want to wake up!
