Rally Day 1!!
This morning we had about a 40 mile drive to get to the
rally parking lots. Odie passed a new milestone in his life as a motorhome dog! While we're driving, Odie usually sits on my lap or on the floor between the seats in the cab. This morning was the first time he got playful. While we were on the road, he picked up his toy and asked me to throw it. He'd chase it to the back and bring it back!
The first half hour on the road was uneventful, then we saw what we were getting into:
I felt like I was part of the line responding to 'Build it and they will come'. Or ... a comfort-generation's Woodstock!
When we got to our destination (another hour and a half later) we met Frank and his sister Mary who are our primary contacts at
Coach Connect. If possible, we liked them even more in person than we have over the phone.
Then the whole team got together for dinner:
Then a meeting at the tent next to where we're parked.
Look at all those RVs!! And, this is just the first day of the 'Early Birds'. The rally doesn't officially start until Monday.
The logistics are mind-boggling. No way I'd want to be in charge of this. Where we are parked is an old airfield that used to belong U.S. Navy. It is still used as a glider port. This is actually the 'overflow' parking. We were always scheduled to be parked here. We are providing the Wi-Fi hotspot for Coach Connect with our Datastorm dish. But, since there has been so much rain, some of the main parking lots are flooded and thousands of RVs have been rerouted to this lot. Check out how they provide electricity. Portable generators have been brought to the area and big cables are strung along the concrete pavement with electrical boxes every so often for RVs to plug into.
